OCZ Technologies has released its new series of 3.5-inch solid state drives named Colossus .These new generation drives are available in up to one terabyte (1TB) of storage space.
Colossus is made with multi-level cell or MLC flash, & is manufactured in size of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB & 1TB variants. The product is backed by a three-year warranty.
These drives can be customized according to the needs of OEM clients who may require tailored hardware & firmware solutions for their hardware.
At present OCZ Colossus 128 GB version costs $438; 256 GB at $820; 512 GB at $1530; and the 1TB big daddy is around $3397, according to Xbitlab’s Froogle search.

Benefits of SSD over Traditional HDD
A solid-state disk or drive (SSD), also called a flash drive, is the next generation hard disk.
- The average seek time is less with no moving parts, making the SSD very fast.
- As it is sold-state, the architecture of an SSD does not use disks at all, hence the drive has no mechanical parts to malfunction, & does not generate any sort of heat.
- SSD’s are lighter than standard hard disk drive, very power efficient, and totally silent.
- SSD’s are more durable. If dropped or struck hard it is unlikely to be damaged.
I dont know what technology will be upto in coming years……..
today 1TB would cost $3000+ but the same may be $300 in another 1 year time…….. By the they would have come out with 10TB storage devices……..
I remember getting my first PC which had an storage device of 10 GB……
